The GATE 2007 examination consists of a single paper of 3 hours duration and carries a maximum of 150 marks. he question paper of GATE 2007 will be fully objective type. Candidates have to mark the correct choice by darkening the appropriate bubble against each question on an Objective Response Sheet (ORS). There will be negative marking for wrong answers. The deduction will be 25% of the marks allotted. GATE 2007 will have the following 22 papers: Paper Aerospace Engg. Code AE Paper Information TechnologyCode IT Paper Agricultural Engg. Code CH Paper Metallurgical Engg. Code MT Paper Computer Science & Engg. Code CS Paper Physics Code PH Paper Chemistry Code CY Paper Production & Industrial Engg. Code PI Paper Electronics & Communication Engg. Code EC Paper Pharmaceutical Sciences Code PY Paper Electrical Engg. Code EE Paper Textile Engg. & Fibre Science Code TF Paper Geology & Geophysics Code GG Paper Engineering Sciences Code XE Paper Instrumentation Engg. Code IN Paper Life Sciences Code XL Papers XE and XL are of general nature and will comprise the following Sections: Engineering Sciences (XE) Section Engg. Mathematics (Compulsory) Code (A) Section Computational Science Code (B) Section Electrical Sciences Code (C) Section Fluid Mechanics Code (D) Section Materials Science Code (E) Section Solid Mechanics Code (F) Section Thermodynamics Code (G) Life Sciences (XL) Section Chemistry (Compulsory) Code (H) Section Biochemistry Code (I) Section Biotechnology Code (J) Section Botany Code (K) Section Microbiology Code (L) Section Zoology Code (M) Candidates appearing in XE or XL papers are required to answer three sections . Sections (A) and (H) are compulsory in XE and XL respectively. Candidates can choose any two out of the remaining sections mentioned against the respective papers. The choice of the appropriate paper is the responsibility of the candidate. However, some guidelines are suggested below: Candidates are expected to appear in a paper appropriate to the discipline of their qualifying degree.
